Bridgeport, CT – July 9, 2004 – The Bridgeport Bluefish hold off Nashua Pride, 5-4, in front of 5,102 fans at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard.
Nashua wasted no time scoring as Al Benjamin crossed home as Glenn Murray singled, after singling and stealing second. The Pride scored again in the top of the fourth as Henry Rodriguez hit a solo homerun to right center field, to go ahead 2-0 early.
The Bluefish scored their first run of the night as Oreste Marrero hit an RBI double to center field to score Jose Amado. On the next play Will Pennyfeather tripled to right field to score Marrero to tie the game. Pennyfeather scored as Eddie Lara grounded out to Nashua second baseman Dennis Hine, to make the score 3-2.
Bridgeport tacked on two additional runs as Rolo Avila and Gustavo Escobar both were driven home to extend the Bluefish lead to three runs. Henry Rodriguez hit a two run homerun in the top of the ninth inning to score Glenn Murray and cut the Bridgeport lead to one run.
Bridgeport starter Kevin Henthorne pitched eight innings for the Bluefish giving up two runs on five hits while striking out eight batters faced. Mel Rojas came in for the ninth inning.
The Bluefish begin a three game series against the Long Island Ducks on Saturday with a 7:05 p.m. start. Fireworks will follow the game presented by Port Jefferson Ferry. Also visiting the ballpark will be Reggy, the zany- visiting mascot.
