Bridgeport, CT – August 23, 2004 – The Bridgeport Bluefish defeated the Nashua Pride, 3-2, in front of 2,492 fans at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard.
Jose Amado scored the first run of the night for the Bluefish in the bottom of the first on a RBI single by Willis Otanez, to put the ‘Fish up 1-0 early. Amado reached base on a stand-up double off of the centerfield wall.
The Bluefish tacked on another run in the fourth as Willis Otanez hit his second RBI single of the night allowing Angel Espada to score from second base, making the score 2-0. Espada singled to centerfield and then advanced to second when Jose Amado was hit by a pitch.
The Pride got on the board in the top of the sixth inning as Ricardo Cordova scored on a throwing error to home plate by Bluefish shortstop Nick Ortiz. Cordova reached base on a triple to the centerfield wall.
Gustavo Escobar scored the third run of the night for the Bluefish in the sixth inning on a Keith Lu’Uloa RBI double, making the score 3-1.
Nashua’s Ricardo Cordova crossed home for the second time of the night on a Dante Bichette RBI double, putting the Pride within one run of the Bluefish.
Bluefish starter Luis Arroyo went five scoreless innings with three hits, four strikeouts and one walked batter. Reliever Shane Arthurs came in to pitch two innings for the ‘Fish, giving up one hit and one unearned run. Terrance Hill faced two batters in relief and gave up one earned run. Ryan Schurman also came in for relief and pitched the eight, while Eddy Ramos pitched the ninth inning earning the save.
Bridgeport will continue their best of three game series against the Nashua Pride on Tuesday with a 7:05 p.m. start at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.
