BLUEFISH FALL SHORT OF NASHUA, LOSE, 8-5

Bridgeport, CT – August 25, 2004 – The Bridgeport Bluefish were defeated by  the Nashua Pride, 8-5, in front of 2,523 fans at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard. 

The Pride got on the board first in the top of the second inning as Kevin  Haverbusch hit a two-run homerun over the left field wall.

Nashua scored three additional runs in the third inning as Ricardo Cordova,  Raul Rodarte and Dante Bichette crossed home plate, making the score 3-0.  Cordova reached base on a single to centerfield, then stole second, and later  scored when Bichette singled. Rodarte was walked and scored when Glenn Murray  hit a RBI double down the third base line. Bichette was able to reach home on  a Haverbusch single.

The Bluefish picked up their first run in the bottom of the fourth when  Gustavo Escobar scored from second base on a Keith Lu’Uloa single, making the  score 5-1. Escobar singled and then stole second for the 29th time this  season.

In the bottom of the sixth, the ‘Fish tacked on two additional runs as Jose  Amado scored on a Willis Otanez double to centerfield and Otanez reached home  when Lu’Uloa doubled to left field, putting the Bluefish within two runs of  the Pride. The Pride increased their lead to 6-3 in the seventh inning when  Raul Rodarte scored for the second time of the night.

Nick Ortiz doubled down the third base line in the bottom of the seventh and  scored when Escobar singled, making the score 6-4.

The Pride added two more runs in the top of the eighth inning.

Returning to the starting rotation, Bluefish pitcher Phil Rosengren went six  innings, giving up six earned runs on 10 hits, with four strikeouts and three  walks. Terrence Hill, Ryan Schurman and Shane Arthurs pitched in relief for  the ‘Fish.
