Bridgeport, CT – August 23, 2004 – The Bridgeport Bluefish were defeated by the Nashua Pride, 9-4, in front of 3,067 fans at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard.
Nashua’s Raul Rodarte scored in the top of the first inning on a Dante Bichette RBI double to put the Pride on the board 1-0 early. Rodarte reached base on a single to centerfield. The Pride tacked on two additional runs in the top of the third inning by consecutive homeruns by Raul Rodarte and Dante Bichette, making the score 3-0.
With bases loaded in the bottom of the inning, Jose Amado came threw for the Bluefish and hit a grand slam over the left field wall, allowing the ‘Fish to take a 4-3 lead. Nick Ortiz and Rolo Avila both reached base on singles, while Angel Espada was hit by a pitch, to load the bases for Amado.
In the top of the fourth, three Nashua players crossed home plate, all on Bluefish errors, putting the Pride ahead of the ‘Fish 6-4. The Pride tagged on their seventh and eighth runs as Glenn Murray and Dante Bichette both hit solo homeruns in the fifth and seventh inning, respectively.
Carlos Rodriguez scored the final run for the Pride in the top of the eighth inning on a Brad King RBI double, making the final score 9-4.
Bluefish starter Blake Williams went 7 innings, giving up 8 runs (five earned) on 7 hits, with 9 strikeouts and two walks. Reliever Stevenson Agosto came in to pitch two innings for the ‘Fish, giving up two hits and one earned run.
Bridgeport will wrap up their three game series against the Nashua Pride on Tuesday with a 7:05 p.m. start at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.
