Buell's Book: Giant Training Camp Notes

As a member of the media here in the beautiful Capital District, I have the fine opportunity to watch training camp from the confines of the practice fields. Unfortunately, I'm usually busy working. Well, this morning I took some time to see the first practice. Every now and then, I will write about what happened and give you a little update. 9 a.m. practice- William Joseph is the only unsigned draft pick, Jim Fassel is not happy about it. Due to a lucky parking spot, I actually walked on to the field with Toomer, Barber, Levens, and Dayne. At first a thought it was a strange group because of all the talk about Dayne being disgruntled, but he seemed to get along with Tiki and Levens. Levens is a lot taller than I imagined him being. Strahan was in his usual joking mood, loudly yawning as the coach's went over basic drills. The opposite can be said for 2nd-round pick Osi Umenyiora, who listened intently to every word while working out the second team. This guy oozes athlete though. Hopefully he can play football. Keith Hamilton was not at the morning practice, Frank Ferrara filled in for him. Cornelius Griffen looks like he put on a few pounds, all muscle. He's huge. I saw Ike for a brief minute, he said he was glad to be back. My new favorite player is Jeff Feagles, who does NOTHING. I told our cameraman to get a pic of the new punter, and he says, "C'mon man, I'm a freakin punter, no one cares about me." Good times. He just kept walking along, bouncing a football in the gravel pathway, trying to bounce it back up to himself. Pretty funny guy. Shockey and new TE Visanthe Shiancoe worked together in a blocking drill. At first I thought it was a little frisky, but that was probably me trying to make something out of nothing after Shiancoe's "better than Shockey" statement. Jeremy has a new haircut if anyone cares. He also definitely showed Shiancoe some moves on the blocking drill, which was good to see from a fan's standpoint. New nickleback Roderick Babers is very fast, and appears to have some good hands. Glad to see he made camp on time. I'm pretty sure Ron Dixon was not practicing, no idea what is up with him, I couldn't stay for the post practice press conference. Alright, I'll probably go again this weekend, so if anyone wants anything answered let me know.
